El pueblo soy yo
In Spanish. Short description: Pedro Jorge Vera. El pueblo soy yo, 1976. Autograph of Pedro Jorge Vera. He was an Ecuadorian writer, journalist, university professor, and politician. He is considered a master of Ecuadorian storytelling and one of the most important writers in Ecuador in the 20th century. During a trip to Cuba in 1960, he met Che Guevara, with whom he had a private audience. Upon his return, he founded the left-wing magazine “La Manana” and became the largest defender of the Cuban Revolution in Ecuador. Throughout his life, he remained a close friend of Cuban President Fidel Castro. A short story contest was named in his honor in Quito. Recipient of the Ecuadorean National Prize Eugenio Espejo in 1991 for his entire body of work. Honorary award from the National Union of Journalists of Ecuador in 1984.
