Some changes have been made to the plan of the book and its individual sections. At the beginning of the book there is a complete list of species of mammals in the fauna of the USSR. Behind it is a complete atlas of color total images of all types of mammals, made by artists N.N. Kondakov and O.F. Khludova. The main literature is given in the list placed in front of the range atlas. The range atlas contains 110 maps: it includes the ranges of all terrestrial mammal species, as well as the ranges of some pinnipeds and cetaceans.
