In Russian. Short description: The Novgorod Chronicles: [Also known as Novgorod Second and Novgorod Third Chronicles] / [Edited and introduced by A.F. Bychkov]. – St. Petersburg: Published by the Archaeological Commission; [Printed at the Imperial Academy of Sciences], 1879. – XXIV, 488, 113, [2] p.; 25.7×17 cm. The Novgorod Second Chronicle (also known as the Archive Chronicle or Malinovsky Chronicle) is a monument of Novgorod historiography from the 16th century, named second in the order in which the Novgorod Chronicles were published in the first edition. This condensed extract from the Novgorod archives contains information about events from 911 to 1572. It was first used as a historical source by N.M. Karamzin in his “History of the Russian State”. The revival of Novgorod chronicles in the 1670s-1680s is likely associated with the activities of Patriarch Ioakim, who initiated the creation of the Novgorod Third Chronicle. The latter chronicle is of particular interest as a monument of little-studied late chronicles. Presented in a half-leather binding, stylized to resemble bindings of the era, with gold embossing on the spine. In very good condition.
