Commemorative edition for the 100th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Artistic and technical editing by Al. Brodsky, featuring works by the Russian artist S.V. Chekhonin. The publication includes historical essays and a collection of articles dedicated to the centenary of the Bolshoi Theatre. Authors: D.I. Leshkov, I.I. Rerberg, A.S. Enukidze, I.M. Lapitsky, V.V. Yakovlev, L.L. Sabaneyev, Igor Glebov, E.M. Browder, A.L. Volynsky, and others. Richly illustrated edition – all photographs of individual characters, old engravings, daguerreotypes, and documents related to the entire history of the Bolshoi Theatre, from the 19th century to the early 20th century, were specifically selected and presented by the State Theater Museum named after Alexei Bakhrushin (Moscow), as well as from various collections, museums, etc. Particularly noteworthy is the involvement of the Russian artist M.V. Chekhonin in the edition, the cover of the publication, and numerous stylized headers and footers, sketches, and vignettes specially created by the artist. The publication presents the history of the theatre’s establishment, its first premieres and productions, with separate sections describing – opera and ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre over 100 years, outstanding figures of the late 19th to early 20th centuries: L.V. Sobinov, F.I. Shalyapin, A.V. Nezhdanova, P.A. Khokhlov, E. Kristman, and many others, as well as great musicians, directors, ballet masters, and other great Russian masters: Suk, Golovanov, Lossky, Shkafer, Waltz, and many more. The authors extensively describe the Russian ballet over 100 years. The first directors and ballet masters of the Bolshoi Theatre – A.F. Smirnov, M.P. Stanislavskaya, A.A. Gorsky, and great masters – E. Grimaldi, E.V. Geltser, V.D. Tikhomirov, V.A. Koralli, A.M. Balashova, and others. Numerous tours of foreign theatres at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, outstanding stars of the world stage, opera and ballet productions, and much more are described in a separate section. The great musicians and conductors of the Bolshoi Theatre are presented as a separate chapter. It is also worth noting that the authors dedicated a separate special chapter to the history of the Bolshoi Theatre building.
