In Russian. Short description: Ilminsky N. Church Slavonic ABC Guide for parochial schools and literacy schools. St. Petersburg, 1891. Nikolai Ivanovich Ilminsky (1822-1891) – Russian orientalist, teacher, missionary, biblical scholar. Known as the developer of the missionary and educational “system of N.I. Ilminsky and the alphabet of N.I. Ilminsky. In the process of publishing translations of individual books of the Holy Scriptures, which began in 1862, made by N.I. Ilminsky and V.T. Timofeev, there was a gradual formation on the basis of the Cyrillic alphabet of a special alphabet for the baptized Tatars (Kryashens). At the same time, it was originally supposed to print texts in the letters of the Russian alphabet, but the experience of organizing the educational process and distributing missionary literature showed that additional letters were needed to accurately convey sounds. Ilminsky’s alphabet was used until the 1930s. Please feel free to contact us for a detailed description of the copies available. SKUMS000961
