Please feel free to request a detailed description. Short description: Milyutin, N.A. [The socialist city. The Problem of Building Soviet Cities]. Sotsgorod. Problema stroitelstva sotsialisticheskikh gorodov. – Moscow-Leningrad: GIZ; Krasny proletarii, 1930. – 86 pp. This influential work on urban planning, filled with photogravures, diagrams, and innovative typographic designs, represents a hallmark of constructivist design. Nikolai Miliutin, who transitioned from a Bolshevik activist and trade unionist to the RSFSR’s Commissar of Finance, is remembered primarily for his contributions as an urban planner and editor of Sovetskaya arkhitektura (Soviet Architecture). The book, often referred to by its acronym Sotsgorod or The Socialist City (as noted on its dust jacket), outlines a visionary model for communal living. It describes a linear agro-industrial community, segmented into specialized zones for housing, parks, railways, roads, industry, and agriculture. While the designer of the book remains unknown, the typographic elements and layouts were crafted by the team at the Krasny Proletary print house. According to some reports, the book was withdrawn from bookstores and banned from circulation in 1931, further cementing its rarity and historical significance. SKUMS000909
